Hard-to-get permits come back all season. Get alerted the moment one does.
Whitney, the Enchantments, the marquee wilderness quotas — all claimed within minutes of release. But cancelled and unclaimed dates flow back to recreation.gov all season, and Calafia emails you the moment one reappears.

The honest list
Permits we deliberately don't cover
Some famous permits are lottery-only — there is no cancellation game to win, so a watch would be selling you false hope:
- Mt. Whitney Trail from Whitney Portal (day & overnight) — lottery-run, and its recreation.gov availability endpoints expose nothing watchable — we watch the Trail Crest overnight route instead, which is a real way up the same mountain.
- Wonderland Trail (Mount Rainier) — books through recreation.gov's itinerary system, which exposes no watchable quota — there is nothing for a Scout to check, so we won't pretend to watch it.
- Half Dome cables — lottery-only (preseason plus a daily lottery) — an availability watch can't win a lottery, so we won't sell you one.
- The Wave (Coyote Buttes North) — lottery-only — same story.
- Angels Landing — lottery-only — same story.
- Havasupai — not on recreation.gov at all (tribal reservation system).
- Grand Canyon private river trips (Colorado River through Grand Canyon) — not on recreation.gov — the National Park Service runs its own weighted lottery for private noncommercial launches.
- Smith River (Montana) — state-run permit system (Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks), not on recreation.gov.
- Canyonlands Day-Use Backcountry (White Rim Road & Elephant Hill, entity 4251904) — verified entity, but neither availability API family we implement serves it, and booking itself runs day-before/day-of walk-up rather than a forward calendar — nothing to watch either way yet.
- Canyonlands Overnight Backcountry (entity 4675315) — verified entity — Island in the Sky, the Needles, the Maze, and the river corridors — but neither availability API family we implement serves it.
- Canyonlands Day Use River Permits (entity 621747) — verified entity, but neither availability API family we implement serves it.
- Coyote Buttes South (Advanced Permit, entity 16851) — verified entity — not lottery-only (10 of 20 daily slots book on an open calendar) — but neither availability API family we implement serves it.
- Anan Wildlife Observatory (entity 4251920) — verified entity, but neither availability API family we implement serves it.
- Forks of the Kern River (entity 621751) — verified entity, but neither availability API family we implement serves it.
- Glacier National Park Wilderness Camping (entity 4675321) — verified entity — not lottery-only (70% of the June 15-Sept 30 inventory opens to everyone after two small early-access lotteries) — but neither availability API family we implement serves it.
- Zion Overnight Climbing Permits (entity 4675340) — verified entity, but neither availability API family we implement serves it.
- Bryce Canyon Backcountry Permits (entity 4675330) — verified entity, but neither availability API family we implement serves it.
